MINERSVILLE, Beaver County — Utah Division of Wildlife Resources officials are asking for the public’s help in getting information about a poacher who illegally killed a cougar.

Wildlife officials were contacted on May 15 by concerned citizens who located the dead female cougar in a tree near Minersville, Beaver County. When conservation officers arrived at the scene, they determined the juvenile cougar had been killed and then placed in the tree and left to waste.

Evidence at the scene suggested that the illegal killing likely occurred in January or February, wildlife officials said.

Anyone with information about these or other poaching incidents can call the UTIP hotline at 1-800-662-3337 or email the information to toturninapoacher@utah.gov. Rewards are often available for information leading to the successful prosecution of wildlife crimes, and tipsters can remain anonymous.
