FRANCHISEDOM — The release of “Alien: Covenant” will mark the sixth film in the celebrated franchise.

I’m sure some of you are wagging a finger at me all judgmental like saying, “Oh no. No. This is No. 8.” Well, in a way it is, but in a better way, it’s No. 6. I am not counting “Alien vs. Predator” and “Alien vs. Predator: Requiem” because not only are they really bad movies, but they’re crossover films. I’m just focusing on what is considered the Alien canon and with that, “Covenant” is No. 6.

There are a lot of franchises out there with at least six films in their catalog, but not all are good and that should come as no surprise. There are some, however, that are great and that’s what we’re focusing on here.

Here is a list of the best part six’s in movie franchises:

Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country

Related Stories:

In 1991, the original crew of the U.S.S Enterprise got together one last time for a feature film with “Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.” It was this group's last hurrah together, and they wanted to make something special and they did.

While “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan” still stands as the best of the series, “Undiscovered Country” is a great entry. The film boasts some solid action, fun performances and an engaging story as the crew tries to break Kirk and McCoy out of a Klingon prison.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

It’s not that I don’t like the Harry Potter films, but I never got super into them. For the most part, I figured there was no need to rush out to a theater to see the latest entry, so I would wait until it popped up on Redbox and I had nothing else going on.

This is exactly how I saw “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” and it became apparent very quickly that this is one that I would have paid to see in the theater.

The sixth installment in the multibillion-dollar franchise caught my attention as a more mature Harry took on more serious threats with his friends and started to uncover more of the story that we’d been waiting for. Personally, I’ve never been dying to rewatch the series, but I’d be happy to rewatch “The Half-Blood Prince.”

Rocky Balboa

Rocky Balboa has become a staple of Americana over the years and in 2006, Sylvester Stallone thought he’d give the Italian Stallion a comeback.

Like most everyone else, I was really skeptical about the film, considering the train wreck “Rocky V” was. Sure, “Rocky IV” was campy and ridiculous, but at least it was fun. “Rocky V” was just terrible. So when the sixth installment “Rocky Balboa” hit theaters, I was less than enthusiastic, but I was wrong.

The story wasn’t breaking any new ground and some of it was a bit too silly, but overall, the film hearkened back to the days of the original movie and actually managed to hit the mark and turn into a decent film.

With all that said, it should be noted that the seventh film in the franchise, “Creed,” is a superior film, but we’re talking about part six’s here.

The Avengers

The Marvel Cinematic Universe just released its 17th film with “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,” and this film studio knows how to make money.

As many of my readers know and hate me for it, I am not the biggest Marvel fan. I think some of the films are great, but I think others are a pile of steaming garbage. While I thought the sixth entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was highly overrated, I cannot argue that “The Avengers” was a fun time at the movies and pleased audiences across the globe.

“The Avengers” managed to do what many had tried to do but ultimately failed at, and that's make an ensemble superhero movie that actually works.

When it comes to part six’s, “The Avengers” is by far the most successful and likely most universally loved. Well, maybe that is until I get to the next film on the list.

Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi

I’m kind of cheating here, but I don’t care. “Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi” was the third Star Wars movie released, but it’s Episode VI for crying out loud, so I had to get it on here.

“Return of the Jedi” wasn’t the cinematic masterpiece that “Empire Strikes Back” was, but it was a satisfying finale to what may be the most iconic trilogy of all time. The movie did have Ewoks and it killed off Boba Fett, but it also gave us speeder bikes and the epic battle between Luke and Vader.

“Return of the Jedi” is a fun Star Wars movie and even though it wasn’t the sixth film made, it has earned its spot on this list.
