SALT LAKE CITY — Meeting new people can be hard. Unless you're Moses and its time to get a tour at your school of choice. The 19-year-old seems to be taking a major life step in stride.

"So is this the math building?" he asked his tour guide.

Moses is used to facing milestones on his own.

"I would say I'm rolling with the punches the best I can and just going through life the best I can," he said.

At one point in his life, even survival was a struggle.

"(There was) a lot of death, a lot of hunger and thirst," Moses said.

He's originally from Haiti. "I can't believe I didn't die," he said. "I should've died like ten times there."

When he turned six years old, he was adopted and thought his nightmare was ending.

"I came to the United States and I was with my adoptive family for like two years, and then they put me in foster care and I've been there ever since," Moses said.

Living in foster care is not what he pictured his life in the U.S. would be like.

"It's very frustrating," he said.

The fact that Moses is a high school graduate and now college-bound speaks to his resilience.

"I'm a resourceful person," he said. "I guess I'll figure it out like I've done my entire life."

He's technically an adult, but Moses is still hoping to for somewhere to belong.

"Yeah, like having somewhere to go for Thanksgiving," he said.

Meeting new people can be hard, but these days, the idea of meeting his future family is what helps Moses carry on.

"I think everybody needs a family," he said. "Everybody needs a support system."
