SOUTH SALT LAKE — A man died Saturday after he was struck by a TRAX train while exiting a station platform, authorities said.
Emergency crews responded to the incident at about 11:30 a.m. at the Meadowbrook Station, according to UTA police Capt. Jason Petersen.
Petersen said a 38-year-old man appeared to be exiting the station platform when he was struck by a train.
“He was in the crosswalk and basically stepped in front of the train,” Petersen said.
The man, whose name was not immediately released, was transported to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries, according to UTA spokesman Remi Barron.
Petersen said investigators were trying to figure out why the man stepped in front of the train, but it did not appear to be intentional.
A bus bridge was set up between the Millcreek and Murray North stations for several hours before it was canceled at around 2:50 p.m.
Petersen added that pedestrians are encouraged to be aware of their surroundings near the tracks, especially in inclement weather.
“Just pay attention to your surroundings and make sure to look both ways,” he said.
