HIGHLAND — While most 16-year-olds might spend their Friday night dancing with their friends, one high school student will be partying with a different kind of crowd.

16-year-old Lone Peak High School student Cache Olson, or Olso, as he is known in the music world, will be DJing part of the Freedom Ball, one of the official celebrations following the inauguration of President Donald Trump.

Olson, who’s been DJing for several years and has performed across the country, will play walk-in music before the ball begins and will then DJ the ball from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. where he’ll play about six or seven of his own songs as part of a 35-song line-up he has ready for the night.

“It’s been absolutely incredible,” Olson said of the experience. “Just the scope of everything’s been absolutely mind-blowing… being here in D.C., what you learn about for years in school and seeing it all in real life is just crazy.”

Olson said it was initially his manager who submitted his name for consideration to the Federal Inauguration Committee, who eventually asked him to come DJ for the Freedom Ball after reviewing some of his past work.

Olson found out a few days before Christmas that he had landed the gig.

“I was just astonished,” Olson said. “I didn’t audition at all, just a couple background checks from the Secret Service and that was the bit.”

According to Olson, President Trump will be having his first dance at the Freedom Ball and he hopes to meet him.

“I think he’s gonna have a couple of suited bodies around him, so it might be hard to meet him, but hopefully I’ll be able to get a chance… (I’d say) 'thank you for letting me be here, man. This is incredible, congratulations on winning the election and for sure good luck on the next four years and do good for all of us.'”

Olson will be catching an early flight Saturday morning so he can go to a school dance that night and receive his Eagle Scout Award on Sunday, but for Friday night, he’ll be partying with the newest President of the United States.
