SALT LAKE CITY — Hundreds of Utah women are traveling to Washington, D.C. for Saturday's "Women's March on Washington," according to the group Utah Women Unite.

The group said more than 600 women have purchased plane tickets to attend the march with many more from Utah driving or taking the bus to get to Washington, D.C.

“I think Donald Trump is a symptom as opposed to the disease,” said Kate Kelly, who helped organize the march. “The disease is misogyny and anti-women rhetoric and hate speech.”

She feels the march isn’t anti-Trump but rather anti-misogyny.

“I feel like a lot of people say, ‘Look how far we’ve come,’ but at the same time, the gender pay gap still exists and there are still so many acts of violence against women,” said Kat Kellermeyer, who also helped organize the march.

Other issues uniting the women are gay rights, immigrant rights and climate change.

“We are hoping to gather as a unit, that way Utah women are all together so they can really see that even though we live in a state that is technically one of the worst states for women to live in, we are definitely out there to represent as a unit and be seen as a collective force,” Kellermeyer said.

A similar march is planned for Monday at Utah's Capitol the same day the legislature begins its 2017 session.
