HEBER CITY — Even though it’s very cold outside, officials at Jordanelle State Park are thinking about summer.
Tuesday, crews started to build a beach at Jordanelle State Park.
"We're going from cabana one all the way to the beach house, so it's probably about a quarter mile,” Jordanelle State Park Manager Laurie Backus said.
Crews are using 1,700 tons of sand imported from a Heber City pit. The sand isn’t just for fun. There’s been a lot of erosion in this area the past few years, and this sand will help shore it up.
“Nobody wants to step on rocks with their feet,” Backus said.
She has been trying to get sand for years.
"I've actually had golf courses come and dump their sand, and we don't even spread it,” she said. “We'll just dump it down, and the kids spread it because they're like, 'Yay!' They just go crazy for it."
When the $1.8 million project is done, it will include new picnic areas, a boat repair building and two volleyball courts.
