THE GREAT OUTDOORS — If you want to burn a few calories before the big Thanksgiving feast while donating to a good cause, consider walking or running in a local turkey trot this November.

Below is a list of 21 races sprinkled throughout the state. Some take place the Saturday before Thanksgiving, while other cities reserve their annual turkey trot for Thanksgiving morning.

A 5K and 10K are offered and the races are held in Draper Thursday, Nov. 24, at 8 a.m. and 7:30 a.m., respectively. Costumes are encouraged.

  • Turkey Leg 5K: Thursday, Nov. 24. Starting time is 9 a.m. in Farmington.

  • Cold Turkey Run: Thursday, Nov. 24. Starting time is 9 a.m. in Salt Lake City.

When it comes to being active and coming together for a good cause, Utah just gets it. So put the turkey in early, delegate as many food assignments as you can, and start making the annual Turkey Trot a new family tradition.
