INDIANOLA, Sanpete County — A Mt. Pleasant man's death is being investigated as a homicide after his body was discovered in a shallow grave near the border of Utah and Sanpete counties.
Hunters discovered the body of Wesley Dee Nay, 22, on Oct. 20 in a remote area near U.S. 89, said Utah County Sheriff's Sgt. Spencer Cannon.
Nay's body was in a shallow gave and "under a thin layer of dirt," Cannon said Tuesday.
Nay was reported missing on Sept. 18 and placed on a federal database of missing persons, Cannon said. He didn't know whether Nay was considered to be endangered at the time or how long he may have been dead before the remains were found, but he noted that the body was significantly deteriorated.
"Due to the condition of the body, investigators have yet to determine cause of death," Cannon said in a statement. "However, they were able to identify the victim by dental records."
No arrests had been made in the homicide case as of Tuesday evening.
Cannon's agency is coordinating with the Sanpete County Sheriff's Office and Mt. Pleasant Police Department for the investigation.
