SNOOZEVILLE — I’m not a parent, so I don’t quite understand the kind of desperation that accompanies trying to get a restless child to sleep.

Every new parent has horror stories of endlessly pacing the floor at all hours of the night trying to get their little one to shut their eyes. I’ve heard tales of babies who would only fall asleep while strapped into his or her car seat while mom or dad drove, or would only doze in the stroller. It makes sense that parents would resort to all kinds of creative solutions to get babies to fall and stay asleep.

Enter a video made by GianGiancarlo on YouTube. Now, I’m making a bit of an assumption that this crib-rocking device was made by a dad, but let’s just go with whatever law says, “If it looks semi-dangerous and manmade, dad probably did it.”

Using a power drill affixed to a piece of wood, “dad” seems to have used a long bit of metal attached to a drill bit and the underside of the crib to make the sleeping area rock, albeit not quite gently.

It’s safe to say that this is probably not something you’d want to try at home. Just get one of those automated baby swings.

Or you can try out this method that one pediatrician swears by.
