TV LAND — The air is getting crisper and pumpkin spice lattes are nearly in season, which means it’s time for the major networks to debut their new shows.
From time machines to heaven to babies, the lineup looks a tad familiar. Here are the most promising-looking shows being released this fall season:
Choose your own time-travel adventure
Premise: A history professor is sent back in time with a team to stop horrible things from happening in the past. Their personal stories get in the way of their mission, and they deal with the consequences of their actions in 1930s America.
Air time: Mondays at 10/9 CT on NBC
Premise: HG Wells builds a time machine, and finds himself in modern-day New York hunting Jack the Ripper, who also came through in the time machine.
Air time: Sundays at 9 p.m. CT on ABC
Head to the afterlife
Premise: It’s very lucky that Eleanor (Kristen Bell) went to heaven after she died … but she doesn’t really deserve to be there. She wasn’t quite good enough in her life, and she’s not about to be good in her afterlife. Turns out, heaven isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, so she is going to shake things up a bit.
Air time: Mondays at 10/9 CT on NBC
Enjoy some real-world drama
Premise: People have lives. They live them. We want to watch them. If you love sappy, intertwined stories about human interactions and the nuances in between, this is your show.
Air time: Tuesdays at 10/9 CT on NBC
Premise: What would happen if a woman started playing on a Major League Baseball team? “Pitch” explores that possibility, along with the implications of gender in sports, family pressures and a love of the game.
Air time: Thursdays at 9 p.m. CT on FOX
Looking forward to midseason premieres
ABC has “Still Star Crossed,” about the aftermath of the Romeo and Juliet tragedy. The CW is coming in strong with a comic book-adaptation-turned-murder mystery, “Riverdale.” NBC will debut “Powerless,” a show about superheroes. Fox throws their hat in the time travel game with “Making History,” a comedy about the American Revolution.
