SALT LAKE CITY — A Salt Lake motorcycle officer hit while on duty Monday was expected to be released from the hospital Tuesday.
The sergeant, whose name was not released by the department, suffered a broken leg when a car pulled in front of him as he was attempting to pull over another car for speeding and he hit the driver's side door, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.
The officer was driving with the motorcycle's lights and siren on about 7:30 p.m., attempting to pull over a car for speeding near 1100 S. Main. A woman who was trying to turn onto Main Street from 1011 South didn't have a clear view of oncoming traffic because of all the cars parked along the street for the Salt Lake Bees game, said UHP Sgt. Todd Royce.
She pulled out in front of the office who hit her.
The sergeant slid 50 feet after being separated from his bike. He suffered road rash in addition to the broken bone in his leg, Royce said.
The woman was given a misdemeanor traffic citation.
