SALT LAKE CITY — It's a day for Wednesday's Child here at KSL — a day to help children living in Foster Care find their forever home.

18-year-old Chloe was one of those children. She was in and out of foster care for 10 years, between ages four and 14.

“I was adopted when I was 14,” Chloe.

Success in life doesn't come easy. No one knows that better than Chloe.

Chloe had been in foster care since she was four and a half years old. The road through life is hard enough, full of twists and turns made harder by curves thrown in the way.

“You know at first, it was hard to foresee when I would be adopted,” Chloe said. I was in another foster care adoptive placement, but that didn't work out.”

But then a light shines on life's road in the form of a new family.

“When that six months came up to get ready to be adopted, it just felt right,” Chloe said.

For Shawn and his wife, they say Chloe was the right fit for their family.

“It's funny to see Chloe some of the words she uses, phrases, they're so our family,” Shawn said. “It's such an honor to have everyone recognize that Chloe is our daughter.”

Thanks to adoption, Chloe is thriving in her forever home. But the road to building a family isn't easy.

“One of the things we strive for is consistency in our home,” Shawn said. “Unfortunately, older kids like Chloe have been through a lot, but we don't give passes. A few consistent themes in our home, don't be a statistic, you can rise above and we have high expectations of our children. Whether you’re biological, adopted young, adopted old, once you come into this home, you are part of the family.”

For Chloe, these are rules she has been able to get behind.

“If I hadn't met my mom and dad I would have grown out of the foster care system. They've helped me through a lot.”
