WEST JORDAN — A reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of those responsible for vandalizing trees throughout West Jordan.

Since July 24, more than 60 trees have been damaged along of 2200 West from 7800 South to 9000 South, including in Veterans Memorial Park, causing an estimated $40,000 in damage, according to West Jordan police.

The vandalism involves new trees that are about 2 to 3 inches in diameter, and branches off larger trees with about the same diameter, according to police. The younger trees are being broken at the base and will have to be replaced, according to police.

The suspects appear to be using their bare hands to break the trees, police say. It was not known Wednesday how many people have been responsible for the vandalism.

A $750 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the person or people responsible.

Anyone with any information can call the West Jordan Police Department at 801-840-4000.
