LEICESTER, England — As fraternal twins, two English sisters came into the world together 21 years ago. Now, their babies can say the same thing.

Natalie and Leanne Paulson didn’t plan to have children at the same time, but as with many things in their lives, it just worked out that way. In fact, the sisters discovered they were pregnant on the same day, according to the U.K. Sun.

“We have always been close from birth and have always done everything together,” Natalie Paulson told Today. “We have both always been very maternal and wanted our own families, but never did we imagine we would share the experience of it all together.”

The sisters’ due dates were about a week apart, so they knew their babies — the first for each woman — would be pretty close in age. What they didn’t expect was to be laboring at the same time in the same hospital.

Yeah, you read that correctly.

Leanne Paulson — who was due first — ended up going into labor a week late, on Natalie’s due date — July 28. And Natalie’s baby wasn’t about to miss the birthday party. Shortly after Leanne got to the hospital, Natalie went into labor as well.

“The nurses couldn’t believe it,” Natalie Paulson told the Sun. “I knew it would be close but I never imagined we would be in rooms next to each other giving birth.”

Throughout their labor, the sisters would meet in the hall to check on each other, Leanne Paulson told Today. Turns out, the twin bond extended to their birthing experience.

“Our labor was exactly the same, the babies were both in the same position, and we both needed a little help during the pushing stage as both babies’ heart rates were dropping when we were contracting,” she said.

Leanne Paulson welcomed baby Carter first on the evening of July 29, and his cousin Mila-Rose followed just a few hours later.

“We ended up in the same room afterwards and I was holding her baby and she was holding mine,” Natalie told the Sun. “They even look quite similar.”

While the experience was surreal for the sisters, you can imagine what it must have been like for their mother Denise Rawlings.

"I was flitting from one room to another (during the girls' labors) making sure they were both OK," she told Today. "Although I was totally shattered after having no sleep, it was definitely worth it to have two perfect grandchildren who I adore.”

The twins are thrilled to be able to ease into motherhood the way they’ve done everything else — together.

"We would go shopping for our babies together, get out babies' nurseries ready together and even had a joint baby shower where everything was pink and blue," Natalie told Today. "And now, our babies are going to be so close growing up, and we would never want it any other way."
