SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake Bees starting pitcher Nate Smith became the first Bees player since 2010 to be named to the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game Tuesday. The rosters for the game were selected by Major League Baseball in conjunction with MLB.com, Baseball America and the 30 Major League Clubs.

Smith sports a 5-2 record with a 3.92 ERA. He has started 14 games for the Bees and recorded 64 strikeouts in 82.2 innings pitched. He recorded a season-high nine strikeouts in a losing effort against Nashville May 28. He picked up a win in his last start June 25 against Albuquerque. He tossed 6.1 innings of scoreless baseball, striking out six, walking two and scattering six hits.

The left-hander from Spokane, Washington, played his collegiate ball at Furman and was a member of the USA Collegiate National Team during the 2015 Pan American games where he won both starts against Cuba and Canada, respectively.

He joins former Bees Hank Conger (2010), Nick Adenhart (2006), C.J. Cron (2013), Jefry Marte (2011) and Mike Trout (2010-2011) as well as current Bees Ji-Man Choi (2013) and Tyler Skaggs (2010-2011) as those who have participated in the game.

The Sirius XM All-Star Futures Game will be played Sunday, July 10 at 5 p.m. MT at Petco Park in San Diego as part of All-Star Sunday that also features the All-Star Legends & Celebrity Softball Game.
