LEHI — Lehi residents may be voting on funding for new parks this November. With the growing population, city officials say there is a growing need for recreational spaces.

Resident and Tigers baseball team coach Rory Carlisle said there are too many teams and not enough fields in the city.

"Every year it seems like they are cutting the games or cutting the game times down, so that's frustrating for us as coaches and for our kids," Carlisle said.

To meet the growing need city officials are looking into adding a park with multiple multipurpose fields.

"We have proposed a 50-acre park that is in the southwest part of Lehi that would have five baseball diamonds and three soccer fields," said Cameron Boyle, assistant to the Lehi city administrator. "We would like to see that built in the next couple of years."

To do that, the city needs funding and is exploring the option of a general obligation bond that Lehi residents would vote on in November.

"It's an assessment on each resident and business in the city that is included as part of the property taxes," Boyle said.

It is an idea some residents are not too sure about especially because the already pay to put their children on these athletic teams.

"I'm kind of on the fence because we do pay for the program itself but then we also pay the taxes," Jamie Neil said.

For coach Rory Carlisle, it is a welcomed idea.

"If it's for the kids and sports, I'm all for that," Carlisle said.

Lehi City officials said they would come up with a bond amount by the end of June.
