PROVO — As long as there has been a Provo music scene, there has been Corey Fox. The music community, now along with Vivint Smart Home, is trying to make sure that stays the case for a while longer.

Last month, Velour Live Music Gallery owner Corey Fox posted on Facebook saying he needs a kidney transplant after years of fighting chronic kidney disease. He was diagnosed at age 16.

Since then, some of his closest friends started a website KidneyForCoreyFox.com in an attempt to find a living donor and gather donations. An overwhelming number of people applied for donor screenings and many more donated money. But Tuesday, Vivint announced it would also be helping in the form of a matching $20,000 donation at the Imagine Dragons and Neon Trees #FixtheFox benefit concert.

“Corey is a staple of the Provo community,” said Todd Pedersen, CEO of Vivint Smart Home. “Through Velour, he has been bringing people together for more than a decade, so it is inspiring to see the community rally around him at this difficult time. We are moved by the outpouring of support and are honored to be involved.”

The concert will take place Friday, April 29, at the Velour. The $300 tickets — Velour cover charges usually range from $8-$20 — sold out after going on sale Saturday. A second benefit concert, featuring The Moth and the Flame and Fictionist, is set for Saturday, April 30. That concert was sold out by Thursday.

"The #FixTheFox campaign has entirely been a community effort, and we are incredibly grateful Todd and Vivint want to be a part of it," said Velour marketing manager Kaneischa Johnson.

According to KidneyForCoreyFox.com, a match has yet to be found, but it can take months to determine a match. Johnson and Fox continue to book shows at Velour, but after his operation, it will be closed to private events only while he recovers and his immune system strengthens.

Those interested in donating can visit the Corey Fox website to make a donation through PayPal or Venmo, or donate in-person to the Corey J. Fox Donation account ending in 8886 at Zions Bank.
