College is a time of discovery — discovering who you are, who you want to be and what you want out of life. Unfortunately, some people leave college with regrets of not doing a little more exploring, a little more trying, a little more experimenting and a little more experiencing.

So, just to be sure you don't leave college with any regrets, here are five things you should put on your college bucket list.

Attend a sports event that you wouldn't typically attend

We've all gone to the big-time football games or the sold-out basketball games, but have you ever penciled in some time to attend a tennis match, water polo or a gymnastics meet?

Colleges have sports of all kinds, so why not take the road less traveled and watch how well your school’s volleyball team is doing or see if anyone is close to beating your school’s record for the 100 meters?

Binge watch live theater rather than Netflix

It’s a pretty common thing to hear people talk about how they watched an entire season of their favorite show in one 10-hour sitting. It is not, however, very often heard of when people watch five Shakespearean plays in a three-day period. (Please link this to bard.org)

You won’t need to borrow your cousin’s login information to get into a play like you would for streaming TV shows online. Instead, you can save a few bucks by bringing your student ID with you to the box office.

Not only will you be cultured by the end, but you’ll also be able to describe how amazing the shows were in Iambic Pentameter.

Head for the hills

Sometimes you just want to get away from it all, and the route to a clear mind and relaxed state of mind leads right through the mountains. A breath of fresh air and a night under the stars does wonders for a stressed-out college student.

Don’t stop there, though. Spend a couple more hours in the mountains by finding scenic trails and fun hikes.

Take an impromptu road trip

Classes are going to be your biggest focus while you’re in college, but in addition to your classes, you’ll have study sessions, a job and parties to fill your busy schedule, and that is what makes the impromptu road trip that much better.

Never mind the homework you needed to do; never mind the test that you were supposed to take; never mind the date that you were supposed to go on. You’re living up your college days just how they should be: staying up all night long, surrounded by friends. From big cities—Vegas, Reno, Denver, Phoenix—to national gems—Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam—Utah is the premier place to explore.

Get a bite to eat at the local diner

There are two types of restaurants: one that has 57 other restaurants throughout the state and the other that has one location.

It’s always good to support local small businesses, but it’s even better to sink your teeth into something that can’t be found anywhere else, so don’t miss out on some of the great foods that are your college town’s staple.

You’ve got the rest of your life to eat at franchised restaurants and stress about deadlines — use the four years you’ve got at school as a time to try something new and live without regrets. Southern Utah University has everything a great college has with premier educational opportunities, unique sites to visit and a world of possibilities.
