SANDY — A 4-year-old from Sandy already has more snowboarding skills than many of us ever will.

Terje LaMont’s impressive abilities, which include terrain park jumps and box slides, are featured in a YouTube video published Thursday. His father, Brodie LaMont, said this is already the young boy’s third season on the slopes.

“He’s always kind of been on a board since he could walk,” Brodie LaMont said. “He loves it.”

The family has season passes to Snowbird and hits the slopes together about four times a week. Brodie LaMont joked that his little son, who won’t turn 5 until December, is spoiled and doesn’t even realize it.

Terje got his start on the slopes using the magic carpet and ropes. In the beginning, the young boy had the balance to ride but couldn’t stop and didn’t have the attention to watch for other riders. To help his son stay safe, Brodie LaMont used a rope and together they could tackle most runs.

Starting this season, Terje can ride on his own.

“When we go up we just kind of have fun. He likes to do it,” Brodie LaMont said. “I point out little things that I think he can do and he just goes for it. I supposed next year we’ll start working on more tricks and stuff, but he just progressed so fast this year from being hooked on that rope to being able to do whatever.”

Enjoying the powder is a family affair. Brodie LaMont, who turns 40 this year, also got an early start on the slopes. He started skiing when he was 3 years old and picked up snowboarding in sixth grade. He said he loves being able to share the sport with his child.

In addition to snowboarding, Terje also skateboards. His father said the boy can board pretty much all day.
