SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Jamie Penedo had six saves for the Los Angeles Galaxy, preserving a 0-0 tie at Real Salt Lake on Saturday night in the first leg of Major League Soccer's Western Conference semifinals.

Penedo faced pressure for most of the night and made his most critical save in the 90th minute, punching Javier Morales' chip over the crossbar.

The second leg of the total-goals series is Nov. 9 at the Galaxy, when Los Angeles star Landon Donovan could play his career finale.

Real Salt Lake outshot Los Angeles and earned an edge in the away-goals tiebreaker.

Both teams had goals disallowed in the first half due to offside. The game drew 20,713, the second-largest crowd in Rio Tinto Stadium history.
