WASHINGTON, D.C — Most of Utah's eight thousand surviving World War II veterans have not seen their memorial in Washington, D.C.

Friday, 47 of those, and their guardians, had the opportunity of a lifetime to do just that by joining a Utah Honor Flight presented by KSL.

Among them is 17-year-old Branson Horton — an Alta High School senior accompanying his great-grandfather, Jim Kirschbaum. Horton is the youngest guardian ever to make the trip to Washington, but his great-grandfather says he was even younger when he was among those fighting on the front lines of Okinawa.

This is the last Utah Honor Flight of the fall, but the program picks up again in the spring thanks to the support of generous daughters throughout the community.
