Eastern Washington wins without star quarterback Adams

OGDEN — Anytime a star player is out, teams are bound to worry about what will happen.

Eastern Washington quarterback Vernon Adams is out with a foot injury for the foreseeable future, and the Eagles had reason to worry about their matchup over Southern Utah. However, for Eastern Washington, it was "no Adams, no problem," as the Eagles soared over the Thunderbirds, 42-30.

Other conference games also provided offensive fireworks. Montana State routed UC-Davis, 77-37, as Bobcats quarterback Dakota Prukop threw for 361 yards and four touchdowns, and rushed for 148 yards and two touchdowns. Also, Idaho State routed Division-II Simon Fraser, 66-14. Bengals quarterback Justin Arias continued his strong play, throwing for 383 yards and five touchdowns.


Montana State quarterback Dakota Prukop threw four touchdown passes and rushed for two touchdowns.

Sacramento State coach Jody Sears picked us his fourth win of the season, as the Hornets outlasted Northern Colorado, 43-38, on the road. Also, Cal Poly held on late against Weber State, as the Mustangs beat the Wildcats, 30-24, with 289 yards of rushing.

In the weekend’s lone defensive battle, North Dakota got its first conference win of the season, beating Portland State 24-16.

Cal Poly facing in-state rival Sacramento State highlights this week’s matchups in the conference. Also, Weber State travels to Montana State, Montana hosts UC-Davis and Northern Arizona travels to Oregon to face Portland State. Other matchups include Southern Utah traveling to Idaho State, and Eastern Washington hosting Northern Colorado.
