NASHVILLE, Tennessee — A teacher of 41 years received a retirement gift from former students that left her at a loss for words.
Nancy Flexer has taught first grade at Cole Elementary School in Nashville, Tennessee, her entire career. During that time, she has left an impression on hundreds of students that came through her classroom.
For her retirement, teachers at the school contacted creative group Soul Pancake and its show, “Kid President.” Together, they got together past students and filmed a video of the students expressing their love.
The video shows Flexer’s classroom — with charts and labels on colorful paper — filled with adults and children. As soon as she walks in, emotions swell and words fail Flexer.
But students had prepared some words to share with their favorite teacher, from stories about her giving them self confidence to how she helped them reach their goal of obtaining a master’s degree.
"When I looked around and someone was going to say something and I said, 'Oh, my gosh, there's Ashley,' or, 'There's her mother, and how are Desiree and Chandler doing?''' Flexer told Today.com. "I recognized everyone."
