BUTTE, Mont. (AP) — A woman who fled a Montana hospital after she and her newborn tested positive for methamphetamine was arrested Monday in Utah. Her baby is safe, state officials said.

The more than monthlong search for Michelle Renee Yallup, 29, and her infant son ended with her arrest at a truck stop in Willard, Utah, Anaconda Police Chief Tim Barkell told The Montana Standard.

Medical personnel took the baby to the hospital for evaluation, the Montana Department of Justice said. The Utah Department of Family Services will take custody of the boy.

The Butte woman gave birth at Community Hospital in Anaconda on June 17, and soon afterward she told hospital staff she wanted to leave, state officials said. Staffers said she could leave, but not with the baby.

Yallup was walking in a hospital hallway with the boy later that evening when she got into a waiting vehicle, hospital staff said.

Yallup was arrested on warrants charging her with endangering the welfare of a child and forgery. State officials said she was in a motor home with Cascade County license plates.

Officials in the Box Elder County Attorney's Office in Utah said a date for an extradition hearing has not been set, and Yallup does not yet have an attorney. There is no phone listing for Yallup.
