Anjalee Batchelor hit two home runs to help Stansbury pull away with an 8-3 win over Uintah in the 3A state championship game.
“I can’t believe this happened, everyone coming together and all of us working so hard,” Batchelor said after the win. “It’s just amazing ... I love my team so much and I can’t — I’m going to miss them all.”
Stansbury got off to a great start with five runs in the first inning and never looked back. Uintah was able to add two runs in the 3rd inning to cut into the Stallions lead, but Bachelor’s home runs put the game out of reach.
The highlight of the game was an acrobatic catch by Stansbury senior Janessa Bassett, who went through the fence to rob a Uintah hitter of a home run.
The Stallions entered the tournament unranked and didn’t even win their region title, but they dominated the state tourney, outscoring their opponents 37-9.
The program has now won two state championships since the school opened its doors five years ago.
