FORT SMITH, Ark. (AP) — An Arkansas man who dropped his state-issued identification card outside of a gas station he robbed has been sentenced to 12 years in prison.

The Southwest Times Record reports (http://bit.ly/1ocio8p ) that 21-year-old Malcolm Thomas was sentenced Wednesday after accepting a deal with prosecutors. He pleaded guilty to the robbery in exchange for a shorter sentence.

A Fort Smith gas station clerk reported an armed robbery on May 4. Witnesses told police the suspect tripped on his way out of the store and officers found change, condoms and Thomas' ID where he fell. They later arrested him with $250 in his pocket.

Thomas told police he got high before going to the store and didn't know where the money came from.
