ROUND ROCK, Texas (AP) — Texas Rangers right-hander Yu Darvish was solid in his second minor league rehab start, giving up two hits and one run in three innings for Triple-A Round Rock on Friday night.
Darvish struck out the first two New Orleans batters he faced. The Zephyrs, a Miami Marlins affiliate, nicked him for a run in the top of the second on Isaac Galloway's two-out single and a double by Tomas Telis.
But Darvish reasserted command with a perfect third inning that included a leadoff strikeout. Darvish kept his pitches low and appeared to have command of his breaking balls. He threw 50 pitches, 30 of them strikes.
The start was Darvish's second since undergoing Tommy John surgery more than 13 months ago. The All-Star threw 18 of 32 pitches for strikes in his first start with Double-A Frisco on Monday.
Darvish last pitched in a major league game on Aug. 9, 2014, then missed the end of that season because of right elbow inflammation. He pitched only one inning last year in spring training before surgery on March 17, 2015.
