GLASGOW, Ky. (AP) — Trial has begun for a Kentucky man who authorities accuse of killing his former girlfriend's 2-year-old daughter and disposing of her body in a well.

The trial of 26-year-old Anthony Barbour opened Tuesday on murder and other charges in the death of Laynee Wallace, local news organizations reported.

Wallace's body was found on May 25, 2015, in a well in Kentucky's Barren County, a week after she disappeared.

Commonwealth's Attorney John Gardner said at trial that Barbour killed the girl and placed her body in a bag that he put in a safe before dropping it down the well on his family's farm. Barbour was arrested shortly after the body was found.

The prosecutor also said an autopsy report concluded Wallace had injuries to her head and genitals that occurred before her death, but did not cause her death.

Gardner also said Barbour told police he had injected methamphetamine on May 17 and taken the toddler with him to look for arrowheads when she fell off a bluff. Barbour has told investigators he administered CPR, but the prosecutor said there was no sign of that on the body.

Barbour was in a relationship at the time with Laynee's mother, Kelsey Wallace, and they lived in a house in a nearby county, Gardner also said.
