LAS VEGAS (AP) — Las Vegas cooks did an especially good job this year keeping their Thanksgiving turkeys from going up in flames.
Las Vegas Fire and Rescue reported there were no significant fires on Thursday, and there were fewer calls for help on the holiday than on the average day. Thanksgiving typically leads to three times more cooking fires than usual, according to the National Fire Protection Association.
Authorities say there were 18 fire calls in Las Vegas, but no significant damage or injuries, and none of the incidents were related to the holiday. The rest of the calls on Thanksgiving were for medical response linked to sudden illness, injury or car accidents.
Firefighters say it was the third year in a row that there were no major Thanksgiving fires in Las Vegas.
