WASHINGTON (AP) — A judge is ordering two District of Columbia police officers to pay $539,000 for enrolling their three children in city public schools for years while living in Maryland and Virginia.
Attorney General Karl Racine announced the judgment against Lt. Alan Hill and Sgt. Candace Hill on Thursday. Officials say the couple provided a false address to enroll their children in schools near the station in Cleveland Park where they worked. Non-residents can attend city schools, but they must pay tuition.
One child started attending city schools in 2003 and the two others started in 2005. In 2013, D.C. Public Schools ordered the Hills to pull the children from the schools.
A message left at a listing for the Hills seeking comment was not immediately returned.
