SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Some veterans plan to protest a proposal to name a section of the Veterans Memorial Highway after late Utah House Speaker Rebecca Lockhart. The Vietnam veterans say they will hold a motorcycle rally at 6 p.m. today at the Capitol. The Salt Lake Tribune reports they want Gov. Gary Herbert to veto the bill that would add Lockhart's name to a section of Interstate 15.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Gas bills and property taxes are set to tick up after lawmakers passed tax increases. Gov. Gary Herbert signed two bills Friday he says will fund improvements to transportation and education. The gas tax will increase by 5 cents a gallon in July, and in November the average homeowner will pay about $50 more in property taxes.

LEHI, Utah (AP) — Authorities say a 3-year-old boy has died after he was hit by a car in a Utah neighborhood. Police say he was riding a scooter on a walk with his father in Lehi on Saturday evening when he was struck by an SUV leaving a driveway. Lehi Police Sgt. Bill Loveridge says it appears the boy turned in front of the car.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A 74-year-old man escaped uninjured when his small plane made an emergency landing. Authorities say the pilot was the only one aboard the lightweight plane when it landed in a field in Smithfield on Saturday morning. The Cache County Sheriff's Office says the engine in John Kerr's home-built experimental plane seized after he left the Logan airport.
