SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — Sioux Falls officials are proposing new regulations to make it easier for food trucks to operate in the city.
Food trucks have gained popularity in the state's largest city in recent years. Economic Development Manager Brent O'Neil says the city is aiming to strike a balance between mobile food vendors and brick-and-motor restaurants. He says the proposed rules that will it easier for trucks to get permits but also protect permanent businesses.
The proposed standards would clarify things like hours of operation and where trucks can sell. The mobile businesses already must adhere to food safety, noise and parking standards.
Many of the details of the forthcoming ordinance are still being ironed out.
