LOGAN — An early morning head-on collision killed one person and injured three others near Logan Saturday.

Around 8:30 a.m., a man driving an Acura MDX drifted into oncoming traffic in the southbound lane, striking a Ford F-350 head-on, which was pulling a boat on U.S. 89 near the Franklin Basin turnoff, according to Lt. Lee Perry with Utah Highway Patrol. The driver of the Ford attempted to move to the shoulder, but was not successful.

Perry said driver of the Acura, 18-year-old Ryker Dattage, of Hyde Park, died at the scene.

The driver of the Ford, 57-year-old man Bruce Wilson, of Hooper, was airlifted to Ogden Regional Medical Center in serious condition, according to Perry. Two boys riding in the Ford, 14-year-old Morgan Wright and 12-year-old Ethan Flowers, both of Hooper, were transported to Logan Regional Hospital by ambulance in good condition.

Investigators are still trying to determine why Dattage drifted into oncoming traffic.

Perry said UHP expects fatigue, distracted driving or a medical condition contributed to Dattage drifting into the southbound lane.

Wright and Flowers are believed to be Boy Scouts, who were returning from Bear Lake, according to Perry.

Each person involved in the crash was wearing a seat belt, Perry said.

U.S. 89 was closed temporarily for AirMed.

More information will be posted when it becomes available.
