SALT LAKE CITY — Utah was recently ranked as the 11th safest state in the U.S., and now a new study has revealed the safest city in the Beehive state.

SafeWise released a report Monday with a compilation of 2012 FBI crime statistics and some independent research it conducted. The data in the report showed the top 40 cities with over 5,000 residents that had the best safety records including the lowest number of violent crimes — aggravated assault, robbery, forcible rape and murder. The number of property crimes were also included in the statistics.

The data was combined to calculate the probability of those crimes happening in a one of out 1,000 ratio to compensate for population variances.
