TACOMA, Wash. — The Washington State Department of Corrections has released Steven Powell after serving 30 months on 14 counts of voyeurism.
Powell served time for taking photographs of two girls, then ages 8 and 10, with a telephoto lens from his house while they were in their bathroom.
“I knew it was coming and that it was going to be today,” said Jennifer Graves, Powell’s daughter. “It had to come, so I’m not particularly pleased about it, but it had to come. He shows no remorse, no intention of changing his ways and improving himself.”
Graves lives in Utah and has been estranged from her father, believing he has information about her missing sister-in-law, his daughter-in-law Susan Powell. Steven Powell's diaries revealed an obsession with Susan.
“I don’t really want him back in my life at this point because I think he was responsible, or at least knows about Susan’s disappearance,” Graves said.
Susan Powell has been missing from her West Valley City home since 2009. Investigators and Graves believe she was murdered by her husband, Josh Powell, who later killed their two young sons and then himself.
“I have never had a case whether it's been as a commentator or a lawyer that’s been as tragic as this case,” said Anne Bremner, who represents Susan's parents.
Powell will be on probation for 30 months, required to wear a GPS locator and attend a sex-offender treatment program.
The corrections facility says he plans to live in Tacoma.
