PROVO — School district officials have approved a $108 million bond proposal to go onto the November ballot.
Tuesday, officials voted unanimously to advance the proposal onto the November ballot. The bond would pay for the reconstruction of Rock Canyon Elementary School, Edgemont Elementary School, Sunset View Elementary School, Provost Elementary School and Provo High School.
The district originally proposed rebuilding Dixon Middle School, but the high school — built in 1954 — was determined a more immediate need. The November proposal estimated a $90 million cost, but after community feedback, the increase was determined, Caleb Price, coordinator of communications and public relations for Provo District, said.
“The public would support a higher amount to get more of the schools taken care of. What it comes down to is it is a way to get as much taken care of as they can this time around,” he said.
The new football facilities would remain at the high school, along with the newest gym, Price said.
The bond will be on the November ballot. If approved, the district will complete a planning period and begin construction as soon as possible. No completion date will be available until after the approval.
