DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Qatar has named former manager Jorge Fossati to coach its national soccer team after back-to-back losses in 2018 World Cup qualifiers.
The Gulf nation's football federation late Saturday named the Uruguayan as coach after firing his fellow countryman Daniel Carreno.
World Cup 2022 host Qatar is languishing at the bottom of its group to qualify for the next World Cup in Russia after losing to Asian rivals Iran and Uzbekistan this month.
Fossati also managed the Qatari team in 2008 and 2009. He currently coaches Qatari professional club Al-Rayyan.
