PROVO, Utah (AP) — Mormon missionaries will return to Liberia and Sierra Leone after being relocated from the two countries nine months ago.
The Daily Herald newspaper in Provo reports (http://bit.ly/1zMpCpq) that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints announced Tuesday that they will open the countries to mission work following the Ebola outbreak.
The church removed missionaries from the north African countries on August 1 because of the Ebola virus spreading in communities there. All missionaries there were tested for the virus and were not carrying the disease.
New mission presidents will begin working around July 1 to help reopen the areas.
The Mormon church said in a statement that it will re-establish full-time missionary work in the countries when health officials declare the region free from Ebola.
