READING, Mass. – Rescue crews are often known for their strength, bravery and poise under pressure. But when a little girl got stuck in an elevator, a group of Massachusetts firemen turned to their extensive knowledge of Disney princess ballads to save the day.

Four-year-old Kaelyn Kerr was on her way to get a haircut with her mom and baby brother last week when the elevator they were riding suddenly stopped between floors. Firefighters came to the rescue, but couldn’t get the elevator up and running again.

Instead, they had to lower a ladder down to the little family to get them out. They were able to pull the baby out easily, but little Kaelyn got scared and didn’t want to cooperate.

“Just as my daughter was about to go up the ladder, she pretty much froze and said, ‘No way, I’m not going up,’” Kaelyn’s mom Kristin told TODAY Moms.

Instead of pressuring Kaelyn to move, one of the firefighters asked her if she liked the movie “Frozen.” The two began chatting about the Disney hit, and another fireman pulled up the song “Let It Go” on his phone. But it didn’t end there. The two men — both fathers of young children — treated Kaelyn to a live performance.

“I guess my father instinct kind of kicked in and I just started singing the song, and John did too,” firefighter Scott Myette told TODAY.

Kaelyn gave the performance two thumbs up, and her mom applauded the serenading duo for soothing her daughter’s nerves and helping her feel safe.

“I was laughing because I thought it was hysterical. It helped lighten the mood,” Kristin Kerr said.

Kaelyn — a big “Frozen” fan herself — eventually let Myette carry her up the ladder to safety.

“It worked, we got her to a point where she was comfortable with us,” firefighter John Keough told Fox 59 News. “Up the ladder we went, right up and over, no problem.”

Kaelyn was in such good spirits from the impromptu concert that she insisted on keeping her hair appointment after the rescue.

“It was easily one of the cutest things I’ve ever seen in my life. They understood how to calm down a 4-year-old,” Kerr said.
